Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology News today featured Dr. Anne Carpenter and her group at the Broad Institute for their work launching a Cell Imaging Consortium. The consortium includes 12 pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and received funding through the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) Bits to Bytes capital program.
In the feature, Carpenter describes the motivation behind the consortium and the image-set it will produce, how the partners were chosen, and how the project will measure success.
As noted by GEN, "With the newly announced dataset, researchers will be able to predict a compound’s activity and toxicity, match drugs to different diseases, identify a drug’s mechanism, and discover and develop new therapeutics."
